A lipstick-deep, velvety red that holds its color from harvest through the dance floor. Freedom is the rose professional designers reach for when "red" needs to mean something specific — gala-event red, wedding-altar red, never bargain-bin pink-tinted-red. Its garnet sibling Explorer goes darker and moodier; Freedom stays bright, saturated, and unmistakably valentine.

The grow story

Bred by Schreurs in the Netherlands and grown at 3,200 meters above sea level in our own production in Cayambe, Ecuador, high in the Andes. Altitude is the unfair advantage. Days are bright; nights cool sharply — a stress pattern that thickens petals, deepens pigment, and slows aging at the cellular level. Most red roses on the U.S. market come from greenhouses at 1,800–2,400m. Freedom from our in-house rose program arrives with petals that audibly snap when you brush them. Cut, conditioned, and shipped within 48 hours of leaving the farm.

Best for

Weddings — especially red-and-white palettes and altar work. Valentine's Day. Gala events. Sympathy arrangements. Brand activations needing a "true red" hero. The 70 cm length is the call for tall pedestal arrangements; 60 cm is the workhorse for hand-tied bouquets and centerpieces. Build the supporting cast from our wholesale rose range.

Care notes

Re-cut stems at a 45° angle under running water. Use 95–100°F water with floral preservative on first hydration to push the bloom. Store at 34–38°F. Remove all foliage below the water line. Freedom is moderately ethylene-sensitive — keep away from ripening fruit and use ethylene blockers in long storage.

What working pros say

"Freedom is the only red I'll guarantee in writing for a wedding. Five days out from the event, it's still tight enough to control how open I want it. Day-of, the petals fall back like silk. No other red does this."

— Floral designer, South Florida (15 yrs experience)

"Freedom is the red I order blind. Whatever week it ships, the color matches the last box — that consistency is worth more than any single spec."

— Event designer, New England (12 yrs experience)
