Red Panther
The signature deep cardinal red. Grown in our own production at 3,200 meters altitude in Cayambe, Ecuador.
The darkest red we grow. Red Panther starts at crimson and falls toward black at the petal base — a step past even Explorer's garnet, with none of Freedom's bright valentine cast. This is the red for designs that flirt with black: dramatic, low-light, high-contrast work where an ordinary red would read cheerful.
The grow story
Grown at 3,200 meters in our own production in Cayambe, Ecuador, in the high Andes. Near-black reds are pure pigment economics — the plant must stack anthocyanin layer over layer, and only the high-altitude stress cycle pushes it that far. Cold nights bank the pigment; the fierce equatorial sun keeps loading more. Greenhouses at lower elevations top out at standard red; this depth is grown, not graded. Each harvest is cut, hydrated, graded, and cold-packed within 48 hours of leaving the block.

Best for
Halloween and gothic-styled events, black-tie galas, fashion and editorial shoots, moody winter weddings, and Valentine's counterprogramming for clients who find standard red predictable. Red Panther against black vessels and candlelight is a complete design language on its own. 60 cm carries most work; 70 cm for dramatic height. Stage the dark palette from our wholesale rose range.
Pairs beautifully with
- Explorer (garnet red) for the deep-red tonal gradient
- Hearts (red garden rose) for textured dark monochrome
- Deep Purple (wine purple) to widen the jewel-dark palette
- Quicksand (champagne taupe) for antique contrast
- Eucalyptus Silver Dollar to keep the darkness legible
Care notes
Re-cut at 45° under running water; first hydration in 95–100°F water with preservative, then hold at 34–38°F. Dark petals absorb heat fast under venue lighting — stage Red Panther last and keep it out of direct spots. The near-black base is varietal, not age; brief staff before quality checks. Moderately ethylene-sensitive.
What working pros say
"Red Panther under candlelight is the whole show. I've built entire gala concepts on that one rose and a case of taper candles."

"It's the red that doesn't smile. October through February I can't keep it in the cooler — every moody mood board ends at this flower."
