Sweet Unique
The signature blush pink. Grown in our own production at 3,200 meters altitude in Cayambe, Ecuador.
The pink with the painted edge. Sweet Unique runs a medium pink at the body of each petal and shades to a deeper rose-pink at the outer margin — De Ruiter's signature subtle bicolor that designers have ordered consistently for over twenty years. The 39-petal head opens with naturally ruffled margins that catch and hold the darker edge color, so a single bloom photographs as two tones from any angle. Not flashy bicolor, not flat single-tone — the in-between every soft-pink recipe quietly needs.
The grow story
Grown at 3,200 meters in our own production in Cayambe, Ecuador, in the high Andes. Edge-shading bicolors are technically demanding to hold — the darker pigment migrates evenly inward under heat stress and washes out the gradient. The cold Andean nights lock the edge-darker pattern into place, and the slow high-altitude cycle gives each petal time to develop the ruffle that catches the deeper tone. Cut, hydrated, graded, and cold-packed within 48 hours of harvest.

Best for
Romantic pink wedding palettes that want a little textural surprise, anniversary and Mother's Day retail programs, bridesmaid bouquets where every stem reads as carefully chosen, and centerpieces under garden-rose focals. The edge-darker shading photographs beautifully at close range — the rose for the detail shots. Layer the pink range from our wholesale rose range.
Pairs beautifully with
- Vi Pink (clear medium pink) for single-tone companion
- Pink Floyd (deep magenta) to push toward the saturated end
- Hermosa (pastel pink) to lighten upward
- Spray Rose Pink for detail at boutonniere scale
- Eucalyptus Silver Dollar for the gray-green frame
Care notes
Re-cut at 45° under running water; first hydration in 95–100°F water with preservative, then hold at 34–38°F. Strip foliage below the water line. The edge-shading intensifies slightly with full opening and cooler holding — for the most pronounced two-tone effect, give the bloom two days of conditioning before the build. Moderately ethylene-sensitive.
What working pros say
"Sweet Unique is the bicolor that doesn't shout. Brides who say 'no two-tone roses' fall for this one because the edge reads as natural variation, not a paint job."
— Wedding floral designer, Asheville (11 yrs experience)
"Twenty years on the market and it's still on my standing order. Consistent, predictable, and the darker edge makes every shot pop a little."
— Event florist, Cleveland (16 yrs experience)
