Hydrangea Dark Green
The signature garden green. Grown by curated partner growers across the Ecuadorian and Colombian highlands.
The deep end of the green hydrangea spectrum. Where standard green hydrangea reads fresh and bright, dark green is held on the plant longer still, hardening into a saturated antique tone with bronze undertones at the floret edges. This is the late-season look designers chase for moody palettes — and because it is the most mature cut in the category, it is also the most color-stable head we ship. What arrives on Tuesday is what tears down the following Monday.
The grow story
Sourced from our curated network of partner growers in the Ecuadorian and Colombian highlands, conditioned to cold-chain standards equivalent to Magnaflor's own rose production at Cayambe. Hydrangeas thrive at the mid-altitude temperatures and consistent daylight these regions provide year-round, producing the head size and color saturation event designers reach for. Dark green is a harvest decision, not a separate plant — partner farms hold these heads weeks past the fresh-green stage until the antique color locks in.

Best for
Moody and autumnal palettes, terracotta and burgundy wedding work, week-long installations and retail displays where color drift would show, and modern designs that want green with weight instead of brightness. It grounds recipes the way foliage cannot — a structured bloom doing a foliage job. Set the focal layer from our wholesale rose range.
Pairs beautifully with
- Hearts (deep red garden rose) for the rich, moody build
- Kahala (toffee-apricot) in terracotta palettes
- Quicksand (taupe-blush) for the antique editorial recipe
- Green Hydrangea to gradient the green register
- Ruscus to extend the dark green downward
Care notes
Re-cut underwater and split or scrape the bottom inch of stem for uptake. The fully hardened florets are the toughest in the hydrangea family, but the rules still hold: mist heads, revive any flagging stem with a 30-second hot-water dip and deep cool hydration, and keep fruit out of the cooler — ethylene sensitivity stays high. Store at 34–38°F with low humidity.
What working pros say
"Dark green is my fall workhorse. It sits next to terracotta roses and burgundy dahlias like it was bred for the palette."

"When a client books a week-long corporate install, I spec dark green and sleep fine. It's the one head I never re-stock midweek."
— Studio florist, Seattle (15 yrs experience)
