Bupleurum
The signature garden green. Grown by curated partner growers across the Ecuadorian and Colombian highlands.
The chartreuse the design community quietly runs on. Bupleurum branches into multiple wispy stems, each lined with small rounded perfoliate leaves (the leaf wraps fully around the stem) and topped with clusters of tiny yellow-green umbel florets. The color sits between bright chartreuse foliage and pale yellow flower — neither just greenery nor just a filler, but the connective tissue that lifts cool palettes and warms cool ones. If you've admired an arrangement that looked effortlessly garden-fresh, there was probably bupleurum doing the quiet work.
The grow story
Sourced from our curated network of partner growers in the Ecuadorian and Colombian highlands, conditioned to cold-chain standards equivalent to Magnaflor's own rose production at Cayambe. Bupleurum is a cool-season crop that develops the brightest chartreuse tone when nights stay cool and days bring strong indirect light — the highland climate's signature combination. Stems are cut when the florets are partially open and the foliage is at peak saturation.

Best for
Garden-style and meadow-look arrangements that need a brightener in the green register, soft-bouquet work where designers want fine wispy texture instead of dense foliage, neutral and earth-tone wedding palettes that need a lift, and any recipe where eucalyptus would feel too heavy. Bupleurum is also the classic filler beside pastels — it brightens pinks and warms creams in equal measure. Anchor the focal layer from our wholesale rose range.
Pairs beautifully with
- Sweetness (cream-blush rose) — the chartreuse lifts the warm cream
- Pomarosa (light blush pink) for the pale-pink garden build
- Ranunculus to layer fine texture at different scales
- Limonium for mixed-filler airiness
- Eucalyptus Parvifolia for matched fine-foliage texture
Care notes
Re-cut at 45° and hydrate with preservative; bupleurum drinks moderately but the fine stems flag fast when buckets run low. Strip lower foliage below the water line — the perfoliate leaves trap water against the stem and accelerate decay if submerged. Moderately ethylene-sensitive. Hold at 34–38°F. The umbel florets shed lightly when bunches are shaken; process gently and the loose bits stay in the bucket rather than on the linens.
What working pros say
"Bupleurum is the green I use to fix a recipe that's reading flat. Three stems in and the whole arrangement breathes."
— Wedding floral designer, Sonoma (11 yrs experience)
"I order it every week even when I don't have a specific use. Something always wants chartreuse — and when I don't have bupleurum on hand I notice it immediately."
— Studio florist, Brooklyn (13 yrs experience)
