Brillantina

The shine in the green layer. Brillantina earns its name — "little brilliant" — from the fine, glossy texture of its lime-green sprays, which catch light the way most foliage absorbs it. Used between blooms, it does standard filler work with an extra register: a low sparkle that lifts the whole arrangement, especially under evening light. It is a South American market staple that most U.S. wholesalers never carry, which makes it a quiet signature for designers who know it.

The grow story

Sourced from our curated partner growers in the Ecuadorian and Colombian highlands. Fillers and foliage may grow at lower altitudes than roses, but the cold-chain integrity and grading standards remain consistent with our own production. Highland-grown brillantina holds its gloss longer after cutting than warm-climate crops — the same cool nights that build petal substance in roses keep this foliage firm and bright.

Care notes

Brillantina is foliage-forward and behaves like it: re-cut at 45°, hydrate in clean cool water, and strip anything below the water line. The gloss is the freshness indicator — when the sheen dulls, the stem is past its best, so rotate stock first-in-first-out. Low ethylene sensitivity and good cooler tolerance at 34–38°F. Mist lightly in dry climates to keep the fine texture from crisping.
