Craspedia

A drumstick of pure geometry. Craspedia — billy balls, billy buttons — holds one dense golden sphere, about the size of a large marble, on a wiry, leafless stem. No petals to bruise, no foliage to strip, no opening or closing: just a saturated yellow dot that goes exactly where the design needs it and stays there for three weeks. That graphic reliability has made craspedia the signature accent of modern, minimal, and mid-century-leaning floral work.

The grow story

Sourced from our curated partner growers in the Ecuadorian and Colombian highlands. Fillers and foliage may grow at lower altitudes than roses, but the cold-chain integrity and grading standards remain consistent with our own production. The strong equatorial light saturates the gold all the way through the head — craspedia color is structural, not surface — and the cool nights keep stems wiry and straight.

Care notes

The easiest stem in the cooler. Re-cut at 45°, shallow clean water, no preservative required. No foliage to process, negligible ethylene sensitivity, and full tolerance of 34–38°F storage. The only failure mode is a kinked stem — the wiry stems bend at a point rather than curving, so handle bunches loosely. Left in the arrangement, heads dry perfectly and serve a second life in everlasting designs.
