Craspedia
The signature saturated yellow. Grown by curated partner growers across the Ecuadorian and Colombian highlands.
A drumstick of pure geometry. Craspedia — billy balls, billy buttons — holds one dense golden sphere, about the size of a large marble, on a wiry, leafless stem. No petals to bruise, no foliage to strip, no opening or closing: just a saturated yellow dot that goes exactly where the design needs it and stays there for three weeks. That graphic reliability has made craspedia the signature accent of modern, minimal, and mid-century-leaning floral work.
The grow story
Sourced from our curated partner growers in the Ecuadorian and Colombian highlands. Fillers and foliage may grow at lower altitudes than roses, but the cold-chain integrity and grading standards remain consistent with our own production. The strong equatorial light saturates the gold all the way through the head — craspedia color is structural, not surface — and the cool nights keep stems wiry and straight.

Best for
Modern and minimal designs where each stem is a deliberate mark, boutonnieres — a single ball needs nothing else — bud-vase runs, graphic contemporary centerpieces, and everlasting work, since craspedia dries in place without losing shape or color. It is also the stem that survives the kids' table. Set it against focals from our wholesale rose range.
Pairs beautifully with
- Candlelight (soft yellow rose) for the tonal build
- Sunflower to run the golden register at two scales
- Achillea Yellow for yellow as plane beside yellow as dot
- Green Ball for a second sphere in a different color
- Lily Grass for clean line work between the dots
Care notes
The easiest stem in the cooler. Re-cut at 45°, shallow clean water, no preservative required. No foliage to process, negligible ethylene sensitivity, and full tolerance of 34–38°F storage. The only failure mode is a kinked stem — the wiry stems bend at a point rather than curving, so handle bunches loosely. Left in the arrangement, heads dry perfectly and serve a second life in everlasting designs.
What working pros say
"Billy balls are punctuation. Three of them turn a soft romantic bouquet into something with a sense of humor."
— Wedding floral designer, Brooklyn (10 yrs experience)
"It's the only boutonniere that survives a wedding day intact. No petals, no wilt — the father of the bride hugs everyone and the ball doesn't care."
— Event florist, Nashville (13 yrs experience)
