Hydrangea Purple
The signature deep purple. Grown by curated partner growers across the Ecuadorian and Colombian highlands.
The in-between color most growers cannot hold. Purple hydrangea lives at the crossover point of the plant's soil chemistry — too acidic and it slides blue, too alkaline and it lands pink. Holding a head in the violet middle takes deliberate soil management across a whole season, which is why true purple is among the scarcest hydrangea colors at wholesale and why competitor listings so often substitute tinted product. This one is natural: a rich violet that shades plum at the center and lighter at the floret edges.
The grow story
Sourced from our curated network of partner growers in the Ecuadorian and Colombian highlands, conditioned to cold-chain standards equivalent to Magnaflor's own rose production at Cayambe. Hydrangeas thrive at the mid-altitude temperatures and consistent daylight these regions provide year-round, producing the head size and color saturation event designers reach for. Purple blocks are managed to a narrow soil pH band — the balancing act between blue and pink chemistry is the whole craft of this color.

Best for
Lavender and plum wedding palettes that need mass, jewel-tone autumn work, quinceañera and gala programs where purple is the brief, and bridging arrangements — purple hydrangea connects blue flowers to pink ones so a mixed palette reads intentional. Set the focal layer from our wholesale rose range.
Pairs beautifully with
- Violet Hill (deep violet rose) for the tone-on-tone build
- Country Blues (purple garden rose) at open-form scale
- Ocean Song (dusty lavender) to soften the register
- Limonium for purple mist between the heads
- Lavender Spray Roses for matching detail work
Care notes
Re-cut underwater and split or scrape the bottom inch of stem for uptake. Mist heads to keep florets crisp; revive a flagging head with a 30-second hot-water dip and deep cool hydration. Ethylene sensitivity is high — no fruit in the cooler. Store at 34–38°F with low humidity. Violet tones shift warmer under tungsten and cooler under LED more visibly than any other hydrangea color; always check against venue lighting before the final build.
